Boston Bound

Tomorrow morning I get on the train for Boston. I can't believe it.
I'm excited for sure. I will really miss the kids. I'll miss Dave a lot too.
I'm gone for 12 days!
Thanks for all of you who are/will be praying for me. Pray for Dave and the kids too!

I'll probably just update through facebook, unless I can get on my blog from my Iphone. We'll see!

Proud Biker

I love church in the evenings. This morning we headed to Kelly Drive. Alex was in the stroller and Lilia was on her new bike. She is the proudest bike rider ever. She would stop her bike just to say hello to other kid riders. She would tell strangers how this is her 1st day riding her bike. They would comment back to her. I love her. She's so outgoing!
Anyway, we explored the Art Museum and the fountain. Then we had lunch at Mug Shots across from Eastern State Penitentiary. Amazing food!
It was a great morning. Lilia fell asleep on the ride home because she was so exhausted from all the bike riding. She wanted to ride everywhere!

P.S. There is this one spot where people do bouldering (a free form of rock climbing) and I showed Alex a guy doing it. When we got back to the car he stood at a pole trying to climb it. He's gonna be an outdoorsman for sure!

Ears pierced

My 4 year old got her ears pierced!

Old City exploration

My mom with Alex watching the fountain at Washington Square & Lilia asleep in the stroller for well over an hour.

Old City exploration

My parent's came down and we explored the city on Friday. Our Old City adventure took us down Elfreth's Alley, which is known as the nations oldest residential street. We also walked around Washington Square and saw the Liberty Bell.
All my dad wanted that day was a hot dog from one of those street carts. He loves them. After 2 unsuccessful carts, my dad finally got the hot dog his mouth had been watering for all afternoon.
We took the train there and back. Everyone loved it. Our feet sure did hurt at the end of the day, but we had a great time!

Too cute

They really do love each other

Big Day!

This morning Lilia asked if she could get her ears pierced. Dave and I talked about it and soon Lilia and I were off to the mall. We couldn't do them both at the same time because we would have to wait 3 hours, so we did one at a time. Eventually we got both ears pierced. She loves it!

The other big fun thing was that Dave finally fixed up a bike we got for free on the side of the road. Lilia is riding it around the house so joyous!

Pictures to come later.

Playing at the fountain at the zoo

Cover your eyes

A mishap at the fountain at the zoo left both kids topless.

Biggest fan

At 19 months Alex will look at a Phillies flag or balloon (at the food store) and recognize that it is the base ball team. He points and say, "Base ball."

A huge choice. I need your help.

Help. I need help. School. Lilia and Alex need to go to school.
Philadelphia elementary schools are horrific. I am not exaggerating.
I think since we've moved here I've been praying about where Lilia will go to school, and inevitably Alex. Here are some of our options...
Samuel Powell School, 38th & Powelton (close by, but large class size, but her best friend might go there)
Greenfield, 23rd or 22nd and Spruce (touring it on Wednesday)
Russell Byers Charter School, 19th & Arch (I just looked at their website and it seems to fit our desires and values, but we haven't toured it. Plus there is a lottery system to get it with a huge waiting list.)
I am giving you all of these details, as my reader, to ask for your help. If you are not someone who prays, I would love your input and opinions about this if you have any, especially if you're a teacher. If you are someone who prays; please pray for us. (Also please give me your input and opinions.) Pray for direction, wisdom and clarity in the decision. We have to make a choice by this coming fall, probably October. This is a huge decision. The charter school goes through 6th grade and the Powell school goes through 4th. That's a big chunk of time and it's setting the foundations. BTW...homeschooling would not be a good option with Lilia nor Alex.
Thanks readers. I expect to hear from you! (email me or leave a comment)

Dukes!

No this shirt isn't from Old Navy or a store like that. I bet you guess it. This is an original. This was Dave's shirt from when he was a young lad. Thanks Dave's mom! Pretty cool!

Playing with the Otters

At the zoo, one of the workers informed us that the otters love to play. If you hold any object and run with it they will chase you. Here's Lilia playing with the otters after receiving a little bit of instruction.

Alex's first love

A sack of sports balls at Target, $2.50. The endless enjoyment from playing with them, priceless.

Paddington's Boots

Do you remember Paddington Bear?
My mom has an original from a long time ago. It's probably an antique. Alex is wearing Paddington's boots. They fit! He loved wearing them outside and playing in the yard.

Stomp, stomp in the puddles

Tea party

Lilia and Alex were both sitting long enough for me to take a picture.

Boston Bound

I can't believe that we are half way through May. Where is the time going? In 2 weeks from tomorrow I will be traveling to Boston for an 11 day trip with Bridges. One thing Campus Crusade does well, in my opinion, is to train students while we have them.
Students and staff from around the country will gather together and stay at Boston University. The trip is only open to Chinese Christians as far as students go. We have 2 students coming from Penn; Minnie & Tony. We (myself & other Bridges staff) will be spending our time with the students doing discipleship and sharing our faith on Boston University's campus. (Discipleship is spending time together, often one on one, reading the Bible, praying, sharing our faith with others, having fun & living life together.)
I'm certainly excited for the experience, but a little nervous. I've been out of the game for a little while now. At least in this capacity.
Dave is staying home with the kids. He opted to send me this year. He will be dividing the time between our parents houses, staying with them. Smart!

Where are we?

That's the question Dave and I kept asking ourselves the whole time. It's called Bartram's Garden and it's only a 7 minute drive from our house! You drive through some somewhat rough area and then all of a sudden you are in this beautiful place. All you can ask yourself is where are we? The kids are walk down the trail towards the Schuylkill river.
If you haven't been here, check it out. It's beautiful. The best part is that it's free!
We even found a robin's egg that broke on the ground as we were leaving!

Alex's version of dress up

I bought Alex these red boots at a consignment sale for $3. Great find! They are 2 sizes too big, but he insists on wearing them around.
The funniest thing is that he looses his balance because they are so clunky and it's tough for him to get up.

Downtown

Saturday night we headed downtown to Broad street. We took the train down, which could have been all we did. The kids loved it!
The International Festival was having its closing day so we went to explore all the festivities.

Sharing an ice cream treat

Ham!

Alex actually leaned into the camera for me to take a picture. His mouth was full of ice cream and he was having a blast!
Sitting on the wonderful church steps enjoying a sweet treat.

Super fun day

We spent today at my in-laws house. It was such a good time. We went for a long walk, then headed over to Starbucks for my tea fix. We played outside for a good part of the day. Lilia rode her bike and we had fun sledding in May. I found these saucer sleds in the garage. We attached some rope and pulled the kids around the yard. Lilia loved it. It was so much fun running so fast then taking a curve so as to flip her out. I felt like a kid again today just enjoying the kids and playing outside with them and blowing bubbles. Yeah for the in-laws living in the burbs!

Vegetable garden

Who knew that without grass and a tiny plot of land you could do so much? Lilia and I planted tomatoes (which are starting to flower) and lettuce. In just 3 weeks our lettuce was big enough to cut down, wash & eat.
Yesterday Dave's grandmom's cousin was in town. His name is KP and he's a retired pastor in Ohio. He stopped by for lunch and we also went on a tour of Philly where Dave's grandmom used to live and teach Sunday school for lots of years.
So for lunch we enjoyed chicken ceasar salad. We grilled the chicken after marinating it in ceasar dressing. Then we used the lettuce from our garden. KP loved it. We all loved it. It was so delish! How fun and unbelievably easy to grow your own lettuce!

Harvested lettuce

Lilia loved it so much she ate 2 plates full.
