Google is attempting to be the default search engine for East Asia. In order to do that, they know they need to be able to let users listen and download music for free. They have just worked out a deal with the 4 major labels to offer most of their music for free for people with an East Asian ISP.
Needless to say I (Dave) have been enjoying legally downloading this past week. They do not offer as complete a selection as iTunes, but they do have the entire catalog of Coldplay, Keane, Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, etc.
There are some really nice parts of living here.
