Sleep Training

I didn't think it was possible to sleep train Alex. Sunday night was the 1st night we tried it. He cried for a full hour. (The books say no longer than an hour.) I was about to go in and get him when he stopped crying. Last night we put him to bed again in his crib to cry himself to sleep. He did better; only 30 min of crying. Tonight he cried for no more than 15 minutes.
He's 5 1/2 months old now and he's learning to put himself to sleep. Before we would have to rock him in the chair, which I did love, or swing him in his car seat. However, once we put him down he would often wake up. It was so frustrating and draining.
In 2 weeks Dave and I are ditching, I mean lovingly saying goodbye to the kids while we go to Austin, TX for a Bridges Conference. Our parents are watching Lilia and Alex. (Please pray for them, seriously.) This was a huge motivation to get Alex to sleep on his own. Lilia can be a breeze, but Alex can be a bugger!
He now sleeps about 9-10 hours a night in his crib. It's such a huge relief!
